This is a film that I made purely out of archival footage from November and December 2023. At the time, I was living in rural Frederick County, Maryland at my mothers house and I had bad cabin fever. There was a lot of old junk in the woods behind our house that dated all the way back to the 90s- and further. With nothing else to do (or so it seemed to me) I decided to start cleaning up the junk that was back there. At the time, I knew that “cleaning content” was very popular, so I decided to record myself. Unfortunately, it wasn’t very satisfying at all and I scrapped the project. The next year, I was yearning to make a film and remembered the footage. I edited everything together, but something was still missing- so as I was re-editing, I decided to spontaneously sing a little song. That song was the missing piece that eluded me for so long, and this film couldn’t have been made on any other day, as I wouldn’t’ve had the same feelings as I did right then. To me, this is a film about capturing the “moments that could not be staged.” A cedar waxwing stopping in for just a moment, a hair in just the right place on your blanket to be annoying, a piece of my life in which I was convinced I was so stuck, only to look back now and yearn for that kind of freedom.
